Competitive Dance Club
Introduction Dance Club competitions are only for those who actually wish to participate. Although we like to encourage a large number of entries (it's much more interesting when you're actually skating against another couple!) there is no pressure for those who think they aren't ready or simply don't want to. Dance Club's about having fun!! Dance Club competitions are pretty casual, and it generally doesn't matter if you don't have the test level for the division you compete in. However, if you wish to enter WAISA (WA Ice Skating Association) competitions, you need to do the tests. These are more nerve-racking than competitions! Well, sometimes.Dance Club Championhips This is the largest competition organised by Dance Club. It's an open competition, which means we get entries from freeskaters as well, although the must be Elementary 3 or below. In previous years it's been held at the end of the year, around October, but we've shifted it to the beginning. Events depend on the number of entries that we get in each - if there's only one person competing we sometimes cancel the event because it isn't worth it. Most of the following events are usually held:
Solo dance is generally only included if the Solo Dance Competition isn't held later in the year. The Hyland Trophy The Hyland Trophy is named after C. R. Hyland (who was???). It's an in-house competition, which means it's only open to Dance Club members. Generally there are four divisions and each division consists of a compulsory dance. The divisions depend on what level our members are at. For the last few years they've been as follows:
Solo Competiton This is usually held later in the year and is similar to Hyland, except that it's solo dance instead of partnered. Solo Dance is not always held - it depends on whether there's time to organise it and if we can find somewhere to put it in the competition calendar. |
