The Ice Dance Club of WA
Welcome to The Ice Dance Club of Western
Australia!
Although Western Australia is not known for
its success in winter sports, ice skating is still very popular. There
are three main areas of ice skating: free skating, pairs skating and ice
dancing.
Free skating is divided into ladies and men, and involves single skaters
performing routines comprising of jumps, spins and footwork.
Pairs skating is similar to free skating, but as the name suggests,
involves a lady and a man performing the jumps, spins and footwork as a
pair. Throw jumps and lifts are also included. This can be a spectacular
event to watch, with the lady being lifted high above the man's head in
positions that require perfect balance.
Ice dancing is best described as ballroom dancing on ice. In competition
marks come from Compulsory Dances, an Original Dance and a Free Dance.
Dancers are more restricted in the lifts that are allowed - this simply
means they have to be more inventive!
The Ice Dance Club of WA is dedicated to introducing people of all ages and
abilities to the sport of ice dancing - and ensuring that they have
fun!!
