This year's recording is a 'band' in a more traditional sense. Joe also fulfilled a life long ambition of producing a song that sounds exactly like the Rutles. It wasn't a recording without drama though when Joe and his merry rogues decided to meet up in Costa Rica for a highly tempestuous session. The first incident erupted because of the delay in the arrival of Joe's vintage Ampex 4 track reel-to-reel recorder. A minor scuffle ensued when someone suggested a start on Pro-Tools, it was decided to wait.... Once started, recording of the basic track went well but then a huge brawl broke out when Joe insisted that track remain in MONO much to the dismay of Herb E and Lars B. Stefan J arrived to the session late during mixing and was disappointed that his ubiquitous jingle bells track was vetoed by the others. It wasn't a good trip for Stefan who had to then leave early after a bout of food poising from some dodgy local chicken amidst protests that his maracas overdub still cannot be heard. Anthony B and Danny McD from Australia were also booked to attend but got lost en route on a stopover in India, missing the session altogether and ending up at a Rashnishi conference instead. Go figure. The final argument erupted on the last day when everyone ganged up against Joe for wanting to credit his wife Erika as "Executive Producer" and "Band Manager". Everyone eventually kissed and made up and just when everything was looking ok, Herb handed out the celebratory cigars and they were stale... it really left a bad taste in everyone's mouth. It was worth it in the end though, hope you all enjoy Stockholm Christmas... You can find out more about Joe's friends at: http://www.myspace.com/herbeimerman |
